Jssi welcomed Gloucester to Clifton College this morning. The pitch was heavy after an evening of heavy rain. Both teams started quickly and the chances were coming for both teams. A cross along the 6 yards box from Jssi couldn’t find the finishing touch and at the other end Gloucester created a couple of fine opportunities with some great football. A great drive from Gloucester struck the bar and on the stretch a chance from 6 yards out flew over the bar. Luke Merchant in the Gloucester goal pulled off a great save and from the rebound a header off the line kept the scores level at half time 0-0. The second half continued in the same way with both sides trying to play football the right way. A fantastic long range strike from Oliver Morris again tested the keeper and he pulled off another fantastic save. Jssi were playing down hill and really pressed Gloucester in their own half but couldn’t find a finish their play deserved - special praise to the Gloucester keeper. Luke Solue was on his own up front for Gloucester and was holding up play really well and playing in his midfield runners and almost caught Jssi on the break. Full time 0-0. The first period of extra time saw football being played to an extremely high standard in some difficult conditions. A superb ball in from the Gloucester left found Max Gourney unmarked and his great fist touch created enough space for him to open the scoring with a cool finish. Jssi heads didn’t drop and within a couple of minutes a great run from Freddie Lloyd saw him crash a shot on target which Luke Marchant did extremely well to save but Freddie kept his composure and slotted the ball home, from the rebound, into an empty net. In the second period of extra time both teams went for the winner but it wasn't to be so penalties to decide the game. Just 1 penalty missed a piece from the first 5 penalty takers meant sudden death. Reece Joint in the Jssi goal proved to be the hero with a great save from a really good strike - really unlucky for the boy. Jssi through in a great game. Well done to Gloucester and good luck to them in their challenge for the league - a great set of boys and coaches

Match Report

A good game played out down the spa today with Kiddiminster coming out deserved winners with a 2 nil score line, Kiddiminster hit the ground running and not letting Gloucester city settle or play football, Kiddy acted on Gloucester faults and pressed and grew in confidence and took a deserved lead just on half time from a well taken goal by Luke Durban who was excellent all game causing problems every time he had the ball..... into the 2nd half and Gloucester played with more intent but could not breakdown the excellent defence of Kiddy who repelled all of Gloucester attacks and being combative all over the pitch and as Gloucester pushed more and more forward kiddy looked dangerous on the break and got there 2nd by another good strike from Durban. kiddy saw out the rest of the game and fully deserved there win with an excellent team performance. Well Done Kiddy and good luck for the rest of the season

Match Report

Kidderminster Harriers entertained an excellent Gloucester City side in the Preliminary round of the league cup at the Wilden Cricket Club today. Both teams started brightly, pressing the ball well and snapping into challenges all over the pitch. The first five minutes of the game were evenly contested. After the opening spell, a crazy five minutes saw Harriers lose three rapid fire goals through a combination of poor defending and excellent finishing. The first goal could be described as a thirty yard wonder strike, while the other two opportunities were presented through defensive errors, but the finishing on both occasions was exquisite. At three nil down with just over ten minutes on the clock many a team would have folded. But credit to Harriers, they found an extra bit of bite and competed very well for the remainder of the half and were unfortunate not to grab a goal back themselves. Luke Durban was having a fine game on the left of midfield for Harriers and looked like their best chance of creating something in the final third. For Gloucester, the two pacy forwards were a constant threat and the number 10 showed excellent movement, technique and hold up play. The midfield were pressing the ball hard, barely allowing the Harriers side any time to pick their passes and using it very well when in possession. Half time, 3-0 to Gloucester. Harriers re-grouped and started the second half well. They were quicker to the ball and worked tirelessly all over the pitch. Gloucester nicked a fourth goal against the run of play. A poorly defended corner allowed the striker to smash the ball home at the far post to make it 4-0. Game over. Credit to the Harriers side, they kept battling and had their best spell of the game where they managed to pull one back with eight minutes remaining. A tremendous ball from a Luke Durban corner was met with a super header at the back post by Liam Taylor. Game on? Not quite. Harriers pressed forward for a further consolation but were undone by a quick break and Gloucester scored their fifth. Final score 5-1. A combative and pleasing performance from Harries, but Gloucester City's class and quality were just too much on the day. Well done to Nathan and the lads and we wish them a long run in the cup. See you next week in the league lads!
